About The Position

Kids in the Game is seeking a Physical Education Coach for the 2026-2027 school year in New Jersey. The coach will be responsible for providing sports and skill development to children, making a positive impact on their lives. Kids in the Game operates sport and enrichment programs in schools and communities, aiming to provide positive experiences through sports and creative play, inspiring healthy lifestyles and building integrity. Requirements

  • Experience coaching and teaching group sports and physical activity in daily PE programs.
  • Ability to follow and model organizational core values: Positivity, Empathy, Commitment, Ambition, Inclusivity.
  • High level of commitment to being present every day at the program.
  • Ability to operate independently without daily supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain open communication with supervisor.
  • Ability to receive feedback from school administrators.
  • Ability to learn quickly and understand new concepts related to the physical education curriculum.
  • At least two years of experience leading physical education and fitness classes in school-based settings.
  • Demonstrate positive group management and engagement.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
  • Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation.
  • Pass Federal and NJ State background checks.
  • Willingness to complete Department of Education fingerprinting.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk to and from nearby program locations.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–40 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in active games and movement-based activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain visual and auditory awareness to supervise children effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced educational degree in physical education is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in adaptive physical education programs.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Organize games and challenges that promote physical activity among children and young adults from Pre-K to middle school.
  • Develop motor skills and physical development among younger children and proper exercise and eating habits among older children.
  • Build and maintain open lines of communication with supervisors and school administrators.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans to cater to skill levels and learning styles.
  • Independently lead 45-minute PE classes based on diverse school settings for a class size of 30-60 students.
  • Implement appropriate safety instructions and conduct safety checks on equipment and field areas.
  • Implement best practices in child behavior management.
  • Adapt plans to meet the diverse needs of students in an adaptive PE setting.
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure lesson plans build off of skills and gameplay within each subsequent lesson.
  • Discuss progression through the school year for each student with the Program Manager and school admin team.
  • Complete progress reports and report cards.
  • Encourage active participation among students through positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain safe and inclusive spaces.
  • Engage in activities alongside students, balancing participation and supervision.
  • Model and promote positive character development and healthy peer interactions.
  • Use positive language at all times when engaging with students.
  • Act as an ambassador for Kids in the Game at school programs.
  • Foster positive relationships with teachers, school administrators, children, and parents.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure alignment with program goals and student progress.
  • Have weekly check-ins with supervisors.
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors if support is needed or incidents occur.
  • Maintain a safe and organized play environment by inspecting equipment and enforcing safety guidelines.
  • Actively supervise all students.
  • Incorporate appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, and injury-prevention techniques.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts.
  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
  • Daily, on-site attendance to prepare for classes and set up spaces.
  • Be prepared in proper uniform daily.
  • Uphold the organization’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrate integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
