About The Position

Fraser Health is seeking a Physiatrist to join the Fraser Health Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) team. This position is focused in Surrey, BC, and offers a rich and varied clinical scope across inpatient stroke rehabilitation, hospital consultation, and outpatient community reintegration. There is an optional avenue for private practice with a local neurology group. The position encompasses three integrated clinical components: 1. Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation at Laurel Place, a 20-bed dedicated unit, involving Family Practice MRP coverage and call, consultative and directive care, and collaboration with a comprehensive interdisciplinary team. 2. A Consultation Service at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH), a major regional hospital and Level II trauma centre, with a broad scope of consultations including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, and complex medical rehabilitation needs, with access to full diagnostic and subspecialty services. 3. An Outpatient Community Reintegration Clinic in Surrey, a structured hospital-based clinic serving patients transitioning from inpatient rehabilitation back into the community, focusing on functional recovery, adaptive equipment, spasticity management, and return-to-work or daily activities, with a flexible half-day clinic structure and no associated overhead. Additionally, there is an optional private practice opportunity to join a private neurology group practice in Surrey, offering independent EMG and NCS clinic sessions, musculoskeletal and neurorehabilitation consultations, flexible scheduling, an established referral base, and administrative infrastructure, providing significant income supplementation.

Requirements

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation - Required.
  • Current or eligible registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC).
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership.
  • Strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaborative care.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in stroke rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, or general PM&R - preferred.
  • EMG/NCS competency an asset, particularly for private practice component.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Family Practice MRP coverage and call for the inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit.
  • Provide consultative and directive care on the inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit.
  • Provide inpatient PM&R consultation service at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
  • Conduct consultations for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, and complex medical rehabilitation needs.
  • Serve patients transitioning from inpatient rehabilitation back into the community in the outpatient clinic.
  • Focus on functional recovery, adaptive equipment, spasticity management, and return-to-work or daily activities in the outpatient clinic.
  • Conduct independent electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) clinic sessions (optional private practice).
  • Provide musculoskeletal and neurorehabilitation consultations in a private setting (optional private practice).
