About The Position

The Photonics Test Development & Solution Engineer is responsible for defining, automating, and continuously improving wafer‑level silicon photonics test strategies and infrastructure. This role translates customer requirements and goals into robust, repeatable, and scalable automated test plans that can be safely and reliably executed by photonics test technicians. The engineer owns test automation architecture, calibration methodologies, alignment routines, data analysis, and failure root‑cause investigation, serving as the technical escalation point for complex or systemic issues observed during execution. By working closely with technicians and measurement scientists, this role ensures test accuracy, operational scalability, and reproducibility across current and future labs while delivering clear, actionable insights to customers.

Requirements

  • Define, evolve, and own automated wafer level test plans that translate stakeholder requirements into repeatable, accurate, and technician‑usable test campaigns.
  • Develop scripts in C#, python, and MATLAB to scaleably support automation, data analysis, and improve repeatability.
  • Develop and validate calibration and alignment methodologies for complex electro-optical test systems.
  • Define reference measurements, guardbands, and pass/fail criteria that directly reflect performance objectives and intended use cases.
  • System‑level understanding of multi‑instrument test stations, including hardware, software, motion control, and automation interactions.
  • Diagnose systemic failure modes and drive corrective actions across software, procedures, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to distill complex measurement results and large data sets into actionable customer and internal insights.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, including the ability to produce technician‑ready procedures and operational guidance.
  • Cross‑functionally working with technicians, measurement scientists, and stakeholders to improve test effectiveness and scalability.
  • Build, maintain, and defend test station and lab credibility through accurate reliable execution and clear transparent communication

Responsibilities

  • Defines and develops automated wafer‑level test plans using LCA, Velox, TAP, and the Photonic Application Suite, translating customer performance requirements into executable workflows that generate accurate results facilitating actionable insights that influence stakeholder design choices.
  • Develops and validates RF and optical calibration methodologies, alignment algorithms, and reference measurements to ensure accuracy and repeatability during technician‑executed testing.
  • Integrates and evolves instrument drivers, automation frameworks, and control software, ensuring new features are deployment‑ready, documented, and operable by technicians.
  • Acts as the technical escalation point, analyzes failure logs, test data, and technician documentation to identify root causes and drive corrective actions across software, procedures, and infrastructure with a “prevention first” mindset.
  • Owns test data analysis and reporting, maintains long‑term result databases for traceability, and synthesizes results into meaningful customer and internal insights while driving continuous improvement of test infrastructure, processes, and scalability.
