About The Position

KARE in Minneapolis, a TEGNA affiliate, is hiring a freelance, part-time Photojournalist to produce compelling news content for broadcast and digital platforms. The role uses photography and editing tools—including Edius and Adobe products—to tell original stories, create engaging live shots, and enhance coverage with creative production techniques. The Photojournalist covers a range of news, develops sources and story ideas, contributes to editorial discussions, and publishes video and text content across digital platforms, including social media.

Requirements

• Current driver’s license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
• Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
• Demonstrated social media proficiency, especially in the field, including an active news presence on Twitter and Facebook.
• SNG experience.
• Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and nonlinear editing skills.
• Must be flexible with schedule, reliable, and dependable.
• Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.

Nice To Haves

• 1–3 years of experience preferred.
• Membership and active participation in NPPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Use photography and editing tools, including Edius and Adobe products, to tell stories.
• Produce original content for broadcast and digital platforms that evokes emotion and tells compelling stories.
• Write and post daily on digital platforms, including social media, and attach images and streaming video.
• Use graphics and other creative production techniques, such as viewer pictures and webcam interviews, to enhance stories.
• Contact sources and develop news stories; cover breaking, general, sports, feature, investigative, and political news.
• Produce unique and captivating news stories.
• Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas.
• Edit and post video and text stories for the website.
• Perform other tasks as required by a supervisor or executive producer.
