About The Position

WTSP-TV Tampa, TEGNA’s CBS station in Tampa, seeks an artistic Photojournalist to create engaging, shareable content for television, social media, and mobile platforms. The role involves telling stories independently or collaboratively, using current photography and editing tools and techniques, and creating content for multiple platforms. The Photojournalist must be proficient with live news-gathering tools and may participate in on-air or live-streaming performance when necessary. A current driver’s license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• Current driver’s license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
• Flexibility with schedule; reliability and dependability.
• Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills.
• Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
• Organizational skills and ability to work under constant time-pressure deadlines.
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking-news situations and changing events.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds, with or without an accommodation.

Nice To Haves

• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.
• Three to five years of experience in a newsroom environment.
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
• Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
• Membership in and active participation with NPPA.
• Knowledge of EDIUS or another non-linear editing system.

Responsibilities

• Capture video and audio elements for compelling news, sports, feature, and documentary-style stories in a daily-deadline environment.
• Operate an ENG truck or IP video-based live unit (TVU) when assigned.
• Work independently or as part of a team on daily news assignments.
• Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas.
• Use creative production techniques, including graphics and new forms of media such as viewer pictures and webcam interviews, to enhance stories.
