About The Position

ECU School of Art and Design is currently seeking several Federal Work Study Photography Lab Assistants to maintain the Photography area lab and studio spaces. This role involves ensuring the spaces are prepared for students, monitoring safe usage of tools and equipment, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of various lab areas including the darkroom, alternative process, film processing, digital lab, finishing room, and lighting studio. Responsibilities also include managing chemistry and ink levels, organizing supplies, assisting with lighting studio equipment, supporting students with printing and framing, and reporting any necessary repairs.

• Ability to monitor labs and ensure safe usage of tools and equipment.
• Ability to keep lab/studio spaces clean and tidy.
• Willingness to refill chemistry, change inks, and organize supplies.
• Ability to assist with equipment and student tasks.
• Ability to report issues or necessary repairs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in photography labs or studios.
• Familiarity with darkroom, alternative process, film processing, digital lab, finishing room, and lighting studio equipment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the Photography area lab and studio spaces are set up and ready for students.
• Monitor labs to ensure students are using tools and equipment safely.
• Keep lab/studio spaces (darkroom, alt process, film processing, digital lab, finishing room, and lighting studio) clean and tidy on a daily basis.
• Refill chemistry, change inks, and organize supplies as needed.
• Assist with equipment in the lighting studio, including check-out and check-in.
• Assist students with printing, framing, and other tasks as appropriate.
• Report any issues or necessary repairs.
