About The Position

Marlborough School is seeking a part-time (50%) Photography Teacher for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. This role involves instructing two Photography courses for grades 7-12, fostering technical proficiency, visual literacy, and engagement with 21st-century visual culture. The courses cover technical foundations, darkroom practice, digital workflow, critique, and visual analysis, aiming to help students develop their artistic voice. The Visual Arts Department emphasizes exposure to a diverse range of artists, histories, materials, and contemporary practices, viewing art as both a technical process and a powerful form of inquiry. The position offers the opportunity to be an active participant in the Marlborough community, collaborating with colleagues and contributing to school life.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Arts in Photography or other Visual Arts program.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching Photography at the high school or college level.
  • Expertise in, and experience teaching with both analog and digital technologies, including a range of cameras, film development and darkroom processes, and digital printing—including large format.
  • Experience guiding structured, analytical critiques that cultivate visual literacy and facilitate peer feedback.
  • Ability to thrive in collaborative environments and excel at designing and executing curriculum as a member of a teaching team.
  • Possess an interest, enthusiasm for, and commitment to teaching middle and high school students.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, planning and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two sections of Beginning and/or Intermediate Photography in First and Second Semesters.
  • Instruct both analog and digital technology: cameras, lighting studio, darkroom printing, and digital printing—including large format.
  • Facilitate rigorous, objective critiques that emphasize close visual analysis and evidence-based feedback.
  • Support non-instructional administrative and lab stewardship, including materials management, equipment maintenance, tech upgrades, darkroom and classroom space oversight.
  • Cultivate a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
  • Collaborate with the Photography teaching team, contributing to lesson preparation and curriculum development as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators.
  • Adhere to Marlborough’s academic policies, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Participate actively in department and school activities contributing to a collaborative and mission-aligned school culture.
