About The Position
The California Post is seeking a part-time Photo Editor to join its Photo Department, which supports a fast-paced newsroom and enhances storytelling across platforms with compelling, timely imagery. The Photo Editor will be part of the visuals team and help shape how stories are presented across digital platforms. Reporting to the Photo Director, the role involves responding quickly to breaking news, sourcing imagery, and collaborating with editors and reporters to ensure coverage is visually engaging, accurate, and timely. The position is approximately 28 hours per week, scheduled Friday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST, and is eligible for remote work. Employment and payroll are managed by a third-party vendor.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience at a multi-platform digital media brand.
- Newsroom experience and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment under pressure.
- Knowledge of mainstream photo wire services and agents.
- Proven photo research and social verification skills.
- Excellent news judgment and knowledge of news, sports, and entertainment.
- Digital-first mindset and experience adapting photos across platforms.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
Responsibilities
- Produce fast visual coverage of live breaking news and trending stories.
- Fulfill photo requests and produce high-quality assets for digital and print needs.
- Research live news, sports, and political events.
- Create visually impactful composites for the homepage.
