Venesco has potential openings for Phlebotomy Technicians to provide services at Tripler Army Medical Center and surrounding locations for the Armed Services Blood Bank Center. Competitive pay and benefits offered including: Medical, Dental, Vision and Prescription benefits Short- and Long-Term Disability Life Insurance Continuing Education/License Reimbursement Paid time off Hours: Normal hours will be established by the work center and will be a 40-hour week, with an 8-hour day scheduled between the hours of 5:00 am to 10:00 pm, Monday through Sunday, depending on the blood drive schedule, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The majority of hours worked will be Monday through Friday between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm. Some blood drives require longer workdays, up to 12-hour days; in these cases, the HCW will be scheduled to work during the peak work hours and be transported back to the donor center or lodging site as to not exceed the 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Degree/Education: High school equivalent and completion of a donor Phlebotomy program accredited by The Joint Commission or CAP.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support from a course approved by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Board Certification: Certification/registration as a Phlebotomy Technician, Donor Phlebotomy Technician or equivalent by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or other agency approved by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (ASDHA).
  • Experience: One year of experience within the last two years as a phlebotomy technician (donor). Must have performed 50 successful donor collections or patient venipunctures /sample draws with an accredited donor center, laboratory, plasma center, dialysis center, or healthcare facility.

  • Preferred Experience: Experience with Apheresis and working in a blood bank setting.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all CFR, Blood Services Directives, Blood Services Letters, Local Operating Procedures and Exposure Control Plan policies and procedures as well as all Red Cross philosophies, structures, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform some phases of whole blood collection and donor care according to directives, the Code of Federal Regulations and local policies and procedures to ensure safe product and optimum donor experience.
  • Perform Donor Center equipment quality control and maintenance.
  • Collect, process, and submit specimen samples for infectious disease testing and immunohematology testing
  • Prepare whole blood collection sets/kits and issue
  • Process whole blood
  • Perform donor registration
  • Perform donor screening – Health History and Physical Findings
  • Perform whole blood unit collection
  • Perform bag issue
  • Perform apheresis collection
  • Perform therapeutic collection (whole blood)
