About The Position

Duties shall include, but are not limited to: Collect clinical laboratory specimens (human blood) for testing requested by a clinician. Collection of specimens will be accomplished via routine venipuncture and capillary procedures. Collect other body fluids and clinical specimens (i.e. stool, urine, sputum). Instructs patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis. Responsible for specimen processing and transport. Processing will include, but not be limited to, specimen centrifugation, aliquoting, and mixing. Appropriately handles infectious and bio-hazardous waste. Incumbent assists laboratory staff in a variety of laboratory related activities, including but not limited to, ordering entry into a computerized laboratory information system, preparing laboratory related paperwork, storing and inventorying laboratory supplies. Maintain required competency training as outlined by accrediting standards and local policy. Actively participate in the institution’s Quality Management program by reporting quality issues, attending meetings, and in-service programs when applicable. Maintain accurate inventory of all needles and syringes used to replace sub stock inventory. May be called up on to perform other technical or clerical duties, not previously defined, as necessary to meet the needs of the department.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 6 months of applicable experience as evidenced on your resume
  • Provide two (2) letters of reference
  • Must hold a current CPR certification.
  • Must possess knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems.
  • Possess knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
  • The ability to relate and deal effectively with others; and, to recognize, report, and record changes in patient's physical and emotional condition.
