Phlebotomy Technician - Outpatient
About The Position
Phlebotomy Technicians are integral members of the Medical Laboratory Team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients. Obtaining a quality laboratory specimen helps to produce quality lab results that will lead to appropriate care. Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. This is a great hands-on opportunity that will allow you to advance your skills while being a part of a team that feels like family. A caregiver in this position works days| on-call requirements| 3:30am—12:00pm or 5:30am—2:00pm.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment
Nice To Haves
- Formal Phlebotomy Certification
Responsibilities
- Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.
- Verify order requests and identify information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
- Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
- Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.
- Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.
