About The Position

This position is responsible for the accurate and timely collection of blood specimens according to departmental practices. The Phlebotomy Technician II will ensure accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections, and will follow proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens. The role also involves improving work skills through self-study and continuing education, contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department, and protecting self, coworkers, and the facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases. The technician will exhibit and promote the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals, and standards of laboratory testing. Additionally, the role requires providing age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age-specific guidelines for various adult age groups and adhering to general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment through communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • ASCP, AMT, ASPT or equivalent certification from an accredited Phlebotomy training program that includes successful completion of a certification exam with passing scores.

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year age-appropriate phlebotomy experience preferred.
