About The Position

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I to perform phlebotomy/specimen collection, and a variety of laboratory tasks related to phlebotomy: labeling specimens, telephone inquiries, and distribution of phlebotomy supplies. This position is 80%25 time, Monday – Friday, four 8-hour shifts between 0700-1800 with a rotating day off dependent on clinic schedule and workload. The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. The Clinical Laboratories are well recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive care to the patients we serve. The breadth and depth of services provided are amongst the best in the country. The educational programs that the department participates in includes medical students, clinical laboratory scientists as well as biomedical scientists.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Previous public contact/customer service experience

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program or previous phlebotomy experience is desirable.
  • Minimum 6 months previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable.
  • Basic computer skills are desirable.
  • Previous experience with Personal Protective Equipment is desirable.
  • Previous patient contact experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy draws.
  • Performs computer data entry and other clerical tasks as required.
  • Orders, receives, and distributes supplies.
  • Responds to basic phlebotomy inquiries and otherwise represents assigned and related work areas.
  • Administer select medications as designated per protocol.
