About The Position
The Department of Pathology is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I to perform phlebotomy/specimen collection, and a variety of laboratory tasks related to phlebotomy: labeling specimens, telephone inquiries, and distribution of phlebotomy supplies. This position is 50%25-time, Saturday and Sunday, 2nd shift from 1300-2330. The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. The Clinical Laboratories are well recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive care to the patients we serve. The breadth and depth of services provided are amongst the best in the country. The educational programs that the department participates in includes medical students, clinical laboratory scientists as well as biomedical scientists.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Previous public contact/customer service experience.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program or previous phlebotomy experience is desirable.
- Minimum 6 months previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable.
- Basic computer skills are desirable.
- Previous experience with Personal Protective Equipment is desirable.
- Previous patient contact experience is desirable.
- Previous experience performing phlebotomy in a neonatal and/or pediatric setting is desired.
Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy draws.
- Perform computer data entry and other clerical tasks as required.
- Order, receive, and distribute supplies.
- Respond to basic phlebotomy inquiries and otherwise represent assigned and related work areas.
