The Phlebotomy Tech will uphold organizational values by providing exemplary customer service throughout the preanalytical and analytical processes. Responsibilities include adhering to strict patient identification protocols, performing venipunctures according to medical protocol, processing emergency orders, accurately labeling specimens, and operating departmental computer programs for order management and troubleshooting. The role also requires reconciling outstanding test orders, practicing universal precautions and infection control, maintaining supply stock, performing preventive maintenance on equipment, and potentially assisting with specimen processing, coordinator responsibilities in supervisory absence, and training new staff or students. The position also involves participating in quality improvement activities and professional development planning. Specific duties may vary for Clinic-Based and Hospital-Based roles, including reviewing test requisitions, providing patient instructions, maintaining standing order files, preparing and triaging specimens, obtaining waivers, maintaining computerized WOW carts, adhering to isolation procedures, maintaining phone availability for emergent collections, and interacting with clinical staff to resolve issues.
