This role involves collecting, labeling, and transporting patient specimens for testing in a timely manner, including routine and advanced venipuncture. The Phlebotomy Tech will uphold organizational values by providing exemplary customer service throughout the pre-analytical and analytical processes. Responsibilities include adhering to strict patient identification protocols, performing venipunctures as ordered, processing emergency orders, accurately labeling specimens, and operating departmental computer programs for order management and troubleshooting. The role also requires maintaining supply stock, performing preventive maintenance on equipment, and handling specimen processing procedures as needed. Additionally, the Phlebotomy Tech may assist in training new staff or students, participate in quality improvement activities, and attend educational sessions. Specific duties may vary for Clinic-Based and Hospital-Based roles, including reviewing test requisitions, providing instructions for non-blood specimen collections, maintaining standing order files, preparing and triaging specimens, obtaining waivers for Medicare coverage, maintaining computerized WOW carts, adhering to patient isolation procedures, and maintaining phone availability for emergent collections.
