About The Position
The Phlebotomy Tech I position is a Per Diem (As Needed) role with variable shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights) of 8 hours each, located at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. This role involves preparing patients for blood draws, performing blood collections, organizing and transporting specimens, adhering to quality control and safety protocols, and maintaining phlebotomy equipment and supplies. The position may also require performing more complex phlebotomy procedures with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
- BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process
- Responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens
- Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored
- Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results
- Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized
- Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision
