About The Position

Collects patient specimens, correctly identifies patients, transports specimens, and performs phlebotomy. Responsibilities include organization of phlebotomy batches, managing workflow, restocking supplies and shadowing phlebotomy trainees. Performs specimen processing as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training in a formal Phlebotomy program required.
  • Ability to collect blood samples from both adult and pediatric patients using venipuncture and capillary collections in various clinical settings.
  • Ability to meet consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
  • Patient identification is verified in accordance to policy and
  • Patient collections are received correctly in computer system.
  • Information related to samples drawn, collection date and times is documented correctly.
  • Patient samples are packaged correctly for safe transport when needed.
  • Patient samples are delivered to proper locations in a timely
  • Quality issues are reported to a supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Compliance guidelines are applied to all testing and reporting activities.
  • Laboratory operations are conducted to always ensure a safe working environment.
  • Accuracy and quality are maintained for activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of health care experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to collect inpatient and outpatient adult/pediatric specimens in hospital and outpatient preferred.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Suggestions for process improvement are submitted for review.
