About The Position

Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. This position requires patient care. The role involves obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups, ensuring accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens. The assistant may also help in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting. Effective communication with patients and patient care teams is essential, as is handling sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements. The role requires proficiency with computer programs and systems, and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Other test administration and specimen collection duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • At least 1 yr current inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy experience
  • Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
  • Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.
  • Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a phlebotomy course preferred.
  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred

Responsibilities
