About The Position

The Phlebotomy Externship Coordinator oversees the clinical externship component of the Phlebotomy Technician Program. Responsibilities include securing and maintaining externship sites, coordinating student placements, monitoring student progress, verifying completion of required competencies and documentation, maintaining communication with clinical partners, and ensuring compliance with program and certification requirements. The coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for students and healthcare partners throughout the externship experience and works closely with instructional staff to support student success and workforce readiness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of professional phlebotomy experience
  • Current phlebotomy certification
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, specimen collection, patient safety, and healthcare compliance standards
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with healthcare partners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple student placements and deadlines simultaneously
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and other workplace technology tools

Nice To Haves

  • Current ASCP Phlebotomy Technician certification
  • Experience coordinating clinical externships, clinical rotations, or student placements
  • Existing relationships with local healthcare organizations and laboratory facilities
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or training students or new employees
  • Experience working with accreditation, certification, or regulatory requirements
  • Experience with Canvas, Zoom, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in workforce development, continuing education, or healthcare education programs
