About The Position

Frederick Health is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to work Monday to Friday 4:45am to 1:15pm with every other weekend and holiday. This role supports and incorporates the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. The Phlebotomist collects proper specimens (blood, urine, or culture) according to physician's orders, ensuring specimen integrity. They follow standard operating procedures for positive patient identification, collection, labeling, processing, and handling of specimens, prioritizing patient safety and customer focus. In the outpatient setting, the Phlebotomist enters patient demographics for registration and order entry, resolving ambiguous or unusual test orders by contacting appropriate personnel. If responsible for bleeding times, they must meet CLIA qualifications and responsibilities for moderate complexity testing personnel.

Requirements

Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/department’s policies and procedures.
High school diploma or GED required.
Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with site policy for new hires.
Current valid driver's license required except for Impatient areas.
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups: Neonate (0 thru 30 days), Infant (31 thru 12 months), Child (13 months thru 12 years), Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years), Adult (18 years thru 65 years), Geriatric (66+ years).

Nice To Haves

Understanding of medical terminology desirable.
Thirteen week phlebotomy course or 3 month military course is preferred.
Certification from approved phlebotomy program preferred.
Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Collects the proper specimens from the patient, i.e., blood, urine, or culture according to the physician’s order, ensuring specimen integrity.
Follows standard operating procedures for positive patient ID, collection, labeling, processing, and handling of appropriate specimens ensuring patient safety while maintaining customer focus.
Enters patient demographics for registration and order entry of tests in the outpatient setting.
Resolves ambiguous or unusual test orders by contacting the appropriate medical/laboratory personnel.
Meets the qualifications defined by CLIA under 42CFR493.1423 and the responsibilities under 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel if responsible for bleeding times.
