Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution with phlebotomy course diploma.
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques.
  • Knowledge of clinic protocols and policies.
  • Computer literate.
  • Skill in performing efficient and effective draws.
  • Skill in conducting cooperative interactions with patients and staff.
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  • Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients.
  • Ability to interpret and respond appropriately to instructions.
  • Ability to coordinate eye–hand movements to ensure patient comfort during blood draws.
  • A background screening will be required for candidates hired.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience.
  • Medical practice experience helpful.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Performing venipuncture on patients.
  • Using customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
  • Pre-visit planning patients’ records prior to visit in order to ensure appropriate orders and diagnosis.
  • Preparing equipment to efficiently collect specimens.
  • Performing venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients as directed by physician and following medical practice protocols and OSHA standards related to safety, infection control, and confidentiality.
  • Conducting testing on Point of Care specimens.
  • Appropriately preparing all specimens for transport to testing laboratories.
  • Appropriately identifying correct laboratory for testing specific to patient and insurance.
  • Entering data into computer.
  • Assisting patients before, during, and after procedure.
  • Instructing on proper urine collection procedures.
  • Cleaning/sterilizing equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
  • Inventorying supplies and placing orders to ensure adequate supplies are available for all procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
