This is a PRN role. Work locations may alternate between Mont Belvieu, Anahuac, and Dayton based on business need. Under the direct supervision of a Medical Technologist or MLT, the Phlebotomist will obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and perform various screening tests as indicated. The role is responsible for the collection of venous and capillary blood samples using various techniques (i.e., syringe, heel stick, venipuncture, fingerstick). Responsibilities include receiving, processing, and distributing laboratory specimens, distributing departmental paperwork, and stocking supplies as needed. The Phlebotomist must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety, and related criteria for all age groups, from infant to geriatric, as it affects phlebotomy. A professional and cooperative working relationship with patients, families, medical staff, and hospital personnel is required. The Phlebotomist must at all times verify patient identification at bedside, provide instructions to patients when needed, and take safety precautions during the handling of specimens and blood collections. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required. Tasks assigned by Laboratory Management within the scope of training may include order entry on LIS (CPSI), filing of results, scanning of results to CPSI and ECW, and temperature checks. The role also involves disinfecting work areas and phlebotomy trays, inventory checks on supplies, and filing paperwork according to laboratory procedures, maintaining records for two years. Adherence to Chambers Health appearance standards and maintaining a professional dress code is mandatory. A friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude towards customers, clients, and co-workers is essential, with responsiveness to customer needs. The employee will use the Service Excellence model when interacting with patients, clients, and guests. Commitment to professional growth and competence is demonstrated through adherence to hospital and departmental annual training commitments and participation in mandatory in-services and educational programs. Compliance with all established systems and training programs for a safe environment, Chambers Health standards of operation, and the Chambers Health Business Conduct Policy is required. All records and reports must be maintained to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and codes, including civil rights, age discrimination, and Americans with Disabilities Act.
