The Clinical Lab Assistant (CLA) will work closely with the CLA Manager, Laboratory Supervisor, and Lab Director to maintain a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and proficiency in specimen collection and processing. This role involves phlebotomy and point-of-care testing at various locations, ensuring all lab requests are promptly stored in their specified locations. The CLA is responsible for receiving and collecting patient and lab specimens, following proper collection procedures, and ensuring specimens are correctly labeled and department procedures are followed. A key part of the role is double-checking and verifying all information and patient identifiers before accessioning specimens into the Meditech LIS/HIS system. The CLA must ensure communication and coordination with staff for all STAT, Urgent (3 hour TAT), and Routine requests, ensuring they are correctly logged, promptly sorted, and safely transported to the appropriate laboratory sections and/or for send-outs. The CLA must be able to accurately and efficiently perform proper specimen handling, processing, micro-culture set-up & gram stain, including technical and documentation tasks such as drawing blood, bar code labeling, and specimen handling. Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in laboratory and patient drawing areas, trays, and materials is essential to ensure patients perceive timeliness, cleanliness, and safety.
