The Phlebotomist position is a full-time role within the IL ACL Laboratories - Administration: Lab Ambulatory Services department. This role is responsible for verifying patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from patients of all age groups. The phlebotomist will also perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines, handle telephone calls, assist with inventory and supplies, and support billing functions. Additionally, they will accept, receive, sort, package, and track specimens for transport, process specimens for testing, respond to specimen procurement requests, order and verify test requests, document information for quality assurance, run quality control checks, notify providers of stat/critical results, perform laboratory result entry, and conduct proficiency testing. The role also involves instructing employees and students in phlebotomy and related functions, and demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care.
