About The Position
Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. They maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort and safety, and help educate and reassure patients during procedures. At Atlantic Health System, we have skilled medical technicians who can collect blood for diagnostic and screening purposes in a family-friendly environment. Laboratories are open any time during regular business hours. COVID-19 testing is available at some Atlantic Health System outpatient laboratories and centers, as well as a sensory room in the Atlantic Health Children’s Specialty Center at Morristown offers a calming space to help make your family’s lab visit a caring and compassionate experience.

Responsibilities
- Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections.
- Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
- Evaluates provider test orders and collects specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines.
- Accurately labels aliquot samples as required.
- Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process.
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
- Assists with training of team members and students.
- Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience. Communicates effectively through the adherence of the PRIDE (Purpose, Respect, Innovation, Diversity & Inclusion, Extraordinary Care) values. Adheres to the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) model.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and practices department safety procedures in accordance with policies and regulatory agencies.
- Operates and maintains all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures.
- Maintains quantities and reviews expiration dates of all supplies.
