About The Position

Responsible for performing proper specimen collection, primarily blood specimens. This role also involves sample processing, reference sample processing, and inventory of drawing station supplies. Clerical duties may also be performed as needed. The position requires adherence to established office and laboratory procedures, efficient organization to minimize patient wait times, and timely specimen collection to ensure test result availability. The phlebotomist will provide appropriate instructions to patients, label specimens accurately, and process them promptly. This includes centrifuging, preparing specimens for courier, aliquoting, refrigerating, or notifying personnel of STAT requests. The role also involves receiving phone calls, managing supply inventory, and maintaining a positive image of the clinic. Confidentiality of patient records and discretion are essential. The phlebotomist must demonstrate the ability to handle priorities appropriately and adhere to laboratory safety and infection control policies. Predictable and consistent attendance is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy Training (Diploma or Certificate) and/or successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or equivalent training and experience.
  • 1 Year of phlebotomy experience.
  • Capable of performing the procedures required providing proper patients care.
  • Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
  • Must be able to lift at least 10-15lbs.
  • Must be able to assist patients with transfers from chair to wheelchair, to exam tables, and back to wheelchair/chair.
  • Must be able to assist patient with turning/positioning on exam table.
  • Must be able to push patient in wheelchair.
  • Must be able to manipulate objects—reaching, grasping, handling.
  • Must exhibit good communication skills—understand, respond and translate into action.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.

  • Collecting blood samples in appropriate tubes.
  • Assisting nursing personnel in the collection of specimens if needed.
  • Receiving phone calls from nurses, doctors, and reference laboratories.
  • Inventorying and ordering supplies.
  • Demonstrating a positive image of the clinic.
  • Respecting the confidentiality of patient records and using discretion.
  • Demonstrating the ability to deal with priorities in an appropriate manner.
  • Performing work within the established laboratory safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Practicing infection control and chemical hazard procedures for protection of self, patients, and clinic personnel.
  • Maintaining predictable and consistent attendance.
