About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups, including venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections. The role involves providing rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes. Phlebotomists work both independently and as part of a team, fostering an inclusive environment and respecting diverse backgrounds. They interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction. Daily tasks include using various computer programs and systems, accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, answering phones, and assisting with training students and new employees. Individuals hired must complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship and does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • All applicants must include a resume in their application.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working in a medical field.
  • Valid phlebotomy certification from an approved laboratory certification agency (e.g., ASCP, NHA, ASPT) for Phlebotomist II.
  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency (e.g., AMA) for Phlebotomist II.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification for Phlebotomist II.
  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification for Phlebotomist II.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections).
  • Provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize a variety of computer programs and systems.
  • Perform accurate patient identification.
  • Ensure quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.
  • Answer phones.
  • Assist with the training of students and new employees.
  • Travel to other MCHS locations for assignments as needed.
  • Push a cart and walk distances.
