The Phlebotomist position is a full-time role with day shift hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This role also requires rotating Saturday shifts at either the South Elgin PSC or Algonquin PSC from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Phlebotomist is responsible for verifying patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from patients of all age groups according to established protocols. This role also involves performing limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answering telephone calls, assisting with inventory and supplies, processing specimens for testing, ordering and verifying test requests, documenting information for quality assurance, running quality control checks, notifying providers of critical results, performing laboratory result entry, and instructing employees and students in phlebotomy and related functions. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
