Phlebotomist: 20 Hour Per Week (AM)
About The Position
Ascension Alexian Brothers is seeking a Phlebotomist for a 20-hour per week position. This role involves the collection of blood specimens, performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. Responsibilities include patient registration, data entry, specimen accessioning, answering phones, processing paperwork, and preparing specimens for testing or shipment. The individual may also perform waived and specified non-waived Point of Care (POC) tests. In some facilities, this role may include driving to other locations and participating in an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- May be required to travel/drive to other locations
Nice To Haves
- Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
Responsibilities
- Collection of blood specimens

- Accurately and completely entering all necessary data into the computer system
- Specimen accessioning
- Answering telephone calls
- Processing paperwork
- Preparation of specimens for testing and/or for sending to the central laboratory or to a reference laboratory
- Handling blood, body fluid and urine specimens according to established procedures
- Performing limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director
- Acting as a driver and participating in the on-call rotation (in some facilities, as required)
