Requirements

One year experience as a hospital laboratory phlebotomist or graduate of an approved phlebotomy training course.
Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture.
Willingness to cross train to other job descriptions and float to other departments.

Responsibilities

Obtaining blood specimens from patients.
Following laboratory policy on proper patient identification and specimen handling.
Providing care to patients from neonates to geriatrics.
Cross-training to other job descriptions and floating to other departments as needed.
Recognizing signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead.
Verbalizing the stroke alert process.
Drawing blood for stroke panels and delivering specimens to the laboratory for stroke alert patients.
Maintaining currency in stroke knowledge by completing annual online training.
