Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Phlebotomy training certification or six months of previous phlebotomy experience
Knowledge of medical terminology, basic physiology, proper use and care of laboratory equipment, and protocol for aseptic procedures
Basic typing and computer skills
Ability to keep accurate records
Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Ability to accurately remember and apply oral and written procedures
Regular and predictable attendance is required
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; type on a keyboard; and reach
Required to talk and hear
Occasionally required to sit, stand, and walk
Continuously performs complex manipulative skills
Must be able to move up to 50 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
Must wear PPE when situations require
Must submit to COVID-19 testing as required by CMS and other regulatory agencies according to FCMC policy
Have full COVID-19 vaccination (some exemptions allowed)

Responsibilities

Collecting and processing blood samples for analysis
Performing phlebotomy on infants, children, and adults
Instructing patients regarding sample collection and routing
Processing biological specimens in preparation for analysis, including proper labeling, centrifugation, separation, storing, and appropriate packaging and shipping
Inputting patient demographics and doctor’s orders into the lab computer and retrieving results
Performing basic, non-interpretive analytic procedures under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager
Answering phone calls
Making copies, filing, and faxing reports and requisitions
Ensuring correct patient orders and billing information
