About The Position

NeoPath Health, Inc., a Minnesota based administrator of employer based medical services, is in search of a full-time phlebotomist to work at the Prairie Island Health Center in Welch, MN. The Phlebotomist is responsible for assisting practitioners and clinical team members with the care of patients in a primary care setting. The phlebotomist will perform lab related duties by following orders from health care practitioners. The Phlebotomist assumes responsibility for maintaining the lab area, performing blood collection via venipuncture and finger stick techniques, collecting other specimens, and point of care testing. This position requires a high degree of interpersonal and organizational skills. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Phlebotomist certification.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Prior Phlebotomy experience required.
  • Basic computer skills required, EHR experience preferred.
  • Ability to cooperate, collaborate and communicate with all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • EHR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures.
  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information against the order and specimen collection guidelines. Brings discrepancies to the attention of the ordering practitioner and/or management.
  • Verifies patient identification and explains sampling procedures to patients.
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic techniques and following department procedures.
  • Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection and monitoring result receipt.
  • Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule, recording results in the quality-control log, and identifying and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Resolves unusual test orders/results by contacting the ordering practitioner, nurse, and/or reference laboratory. Refers unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification and notifies supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Serves and protects the clinic and community by adhering to professional standards, institutional policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Reassures patients who are nervous about sampling procedures and applies dressings to wounds created by blood draws.
  • Updates patient records.
