About The Position

Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers. HNL Lab Medicine is a leading, full-service medical laboratory headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. We provide testing and related services to physician offices, hospitals, long-term care facilities, employers, and industrial accounts. HNL Lab Medicine operates more than 50 patient service centers in Pennsylvania. We generate more than 63 million clinical and anatomic pathology results for approximately 3 million patients and 15,000 healthcare providers each year. Our staff of more than 2,022 employees includes 109 board-certified pathologists and scientific directors and more than 400 certified lab scientists and phlebotomists working together to provide high-quality, diagnostic testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software.
  • Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant.

  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipunctures.
  • Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient.
  • Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.
  • Performs registration; requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information.
  • Process, store, and transport specimens according to the laboratory requirements.
  • Actively promotes HNL Lab Medicine’s values and exhibits excellent customer relations in anticipating customer needs in all interactions.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures a meticulous work area.
  • Assists in the orientation, training, and mentoring new staff members.
  • Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs.
  • Properly records and documents necessary expense reimbursement (Mileage Reimbursement) following established electronic processes.
  • Provides on-call and mobile service as required.
  • Required to travel to sites within 25 miles other than base location as needed for coverage.
