The Phlebotomist will assist the Laboratory with patient flow during blood draws, retrieving reference laboratory reports, answering the laboratory phone to assist providers with questions, scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR), and performing other day-to-day laboratory duties. This role involves organizing, scheduling, and performing laboratory specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and processing specimens within the Health Service Unit, including both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Phlebotomist will prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the law, Reference Lab requirements, and Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. They will also ensure lab requests are completed properly, all reports are returned from the reference lab, providers are notified, results are logged as received, followed up on appropriately, and filed in the lab and medical record. This position requires acquiring and maintaining knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures. Additionally, the Phlebotomist will assist the Laboratory in coordinating with BOP and Contract Reference Lab contacts, CLIA re-certification, equipment maintenance, and notifying of needed supplies. Computer literacy is expected as the laboratory uses multiple computer programs.
