About The Position

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team! This is a full-time position with an evening shift. The role is responsible for collecting blood samples from inpatients for testing, working with computers and centrifuges for processing samples, and ensuring accurate patient identification and specimen labeling. The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly-skilled technician who can work with minimal supervision, is responsible, reliable, dedicated, and focused on efficient patient care. The position also involves managing inventory, processing orders, operating the pneumatic tube system, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent required
  • Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent training
  • Experienced, highly-skilled technician
  • Can work with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be responsible, reliable, dedicated and focused on their duties for prompt and efficient patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Collection of blood samples from inpatients in a timely manner and delivery to the lab for testing.
  • Working with computers and centrifuge as well as instrument lines for processing blood samples.
  • Properly identifies outpatients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
  • Properly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
  • Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
  • Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures.
  • Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation.
  • Evaluates specimen adequacy.
  • Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department.
  • Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies.
  • Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
  • Collates requests, answers the telephone, delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube.
  • Consistently assumes responsibility for calls, correctly answers questions, directs inquiries and takes messages.
  • Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs.
  • Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks.
  • Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period.
  • Maintains supplies, carts, workstations in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
