This role is responsible for performing various phlebotomy duties, including accurate order placement, specimen collection, and patient identification. The phlebotomist will follow standard precautions and department protocols for blood collection, respond to pages, and minimize redraws. They will also assist with other specimen procurement techniques, such as urine drug screens and nasal/throat swabs. Processing laboratory orders, managing specimens, and interacting effectively with healthcare providers and patients are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the role involves answering telephones professionally, maintaining current knowledge of department protocols, delivering specimens, filling supply orders, monitoring collection lists, and ensuring operational readiness. Inventory management, scanning and indexing patient orders, preparing samples for transport, and operating hospital vehicles for inter-site travel are also required. The phlebotomist will participate in training new employees and may be assigned other duties as needed.
