About The Position

This PRN role involves collecting blood and other patient specimens, scheduling and advising patients for special laboratory tests and procedures, distributing laboratory reports, and assisting with writing or updating laboratory procedures. The position requires maintaining a professional and friendly atmosphere, adhering to all lab/clinic policies and procedures, and achieving competence in venipuncture for pediatric and adult patients. Maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance is essential. The role also involves efficiently delivering specimens to the main lab, understanding specimen integrity, and achieving competency in swab collection for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Performing proper check-in procedures at the front desk is also a responsibility. The Phlebotomist will demonstrate competency to work independently, take Saturday shifts, perform venipuncture in contracted nursing homes, and properly follow all laboratory/phlebotomy procedures, including correct specimen labeling. Collaboration with management on teamwork and laboratory goals is expected. The role may also involve covering lab draws at all facilities in the absence of the nursing home coordinator.

Requirements

  • Up to six months of similar or related experience or on the job training.
  • Completion of a Phlebotomy certification course or in house phlebotomy certification.
  • High School Education or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology helpful.
  • Work may require sitting for periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.
  • Strong professional skills including courtesy, tact, and professionalism.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain good judgement when handling sensitive and personal information.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and other patient specimens.
