Requirements

One year experience as a hospital laboratory phlebotomist or graduate of an approved phlebotomy training course.

Responsibilities

Obtaining blood specimens from patients.
Proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture.
Following laboratory policy on proper patient identification and specimen handling.
Providing care to patients from neonates to geriatrics.
Willingness to cross-train to other job descriptions and float to other departments.
Recognizing signs and symptoms of stroke and calling a stroke alert overhead.
Verbalizing stroke alert process.
Drawing blood for stroke panel and delivering specimens to the laboratory on stroke alert patients.
Maintaining currency in stroke knowledge by completing annual online training.
