As a phlebotomist, you'll support Geisinger’s mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services. At Geisinger, our phlebotomists are the friendly faces that collect samples to be analyzed by our state-of-the-art labs. Supporting a varied patient population, you’ll be responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting. There are many other tasks our phlebotomists complete, such as troubleshooting physician orders, processing specimens for testing, as well as aiding our patients. We have many different skill levels in our labs, from new to experienced phlebotomists, and all skill levels are well utilized. Geisinger employs phlebotomists in roles I, II, and III. We also have numerous staff members who pursue their ASCP certification and become trainers for our department! Phlebotomist I, II and III qualifications will be considered at appropriate compensation. Salary commensurate with experience. Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA) or similar will be considered! Military experience will be considered. US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related medical specialties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  • Member of National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services (NAACLS)

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year-Healthcare
  • Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA) or similar
  • Military experience
  • US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related medical specialties

Responsibilities

  • Obtains blood specimens from patients.
  • May be called on to collect throat specimens.
  • May also perform clerical duties, computer based activities, and may perform some laboratory procedures as required.
  • Collects proper and adequate specimens for diagnostic testing while maintaining positive patient relations.
  • Assists other laboratory staff members in computer-based activities and general clerical responsibilities.
  • Accepts assignments readily and adapts to various workplace environments, serving as a hospital liaison member.
  • Accepts new responsibilities and offers suggestions for improved processes or enhanced patient care.
  • Consistently performs assigned test procedures at assigned work stations according to departmental specifications.
  • Complies with policy and procedures.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting.
  • Troubleshooting physician orders.
  • Processing specimens for testing.
  • Aiding our patients.
