About The Position

The Phlebotomist collects blood specimens, performs laboratory office duties, and processes laboratory specimens. Office duties include registering patients, accurately entering required information into the computer system, accessioning specimens, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing includes preparing specimens for testing or shipment to the central or a reference laboratory. The role also handles blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures and may perform limited waived and specified non-waived point-of-care tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director. At some facilities, the Phlebotomist may be required to drive and participate in an on-call rotation.

The position is based at Franciscan Health Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana. The schedule is 7:00 PM–5:30 AM, Wednesday through Tuesday, on a 7-on/7-off rotation, with weekend and/or holiday rotation and rotating shifts. The role is listed as 36 hours per week with an FTE of 0.9.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• May be required to travel or drive to other locations.

Nice To Haves

• Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology.
