About The Position

Scotland Health Care System is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist for their Oncology Clinic. This full-time position operates on the 1st shift and requires proficiency in phlebotomy practices, accurate data entry into the electronic health record, and effective communication with providers and patients. The role involves organizing work for efficiency, ensuring positive patient identification, adhering to specimen collection protocols, and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. The Phlebotomist will also be responsible for inventory management, maintaining competency, and performing other related duties as assigned. A key aspect of the role includes demonstrating age-specific competency to provide care for patients across the entire lifespan and utilizing the AIDET principle for communication.

Requirements

  • ASPT Certification
  • EPIC Experience Preferred
  • Preferred at least 2 Years as Phlebotomist In an hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Is expected to be proficient in the practice of phlebotomy.
  • Accurately enters patient demographics and tests requests into the electronic health record.
  • Calls and/or faxes results as requested by Providers.
  • Performs duties in a reasonable time span by organizing and planning work.
  • Positively identifies patients before performing phlebotomy procedure and properly labels all specimens.
  • Consistently follows the protocols & procedures as set forth in the Specimen Collection Manual.
  • Exhibits working knowledge of Corporate and Laboratory Compliance Plans and adheres to compliance intent.
  • Aides in training of new personnel.
  • Keep Outpatient area clean & orderly. Maintains adequate supplies & actively participates in inventory control.
  • Maintains passing grade on competency tests.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Age Specific Competency: Staff member will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care to these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 - 12 years; Adolescence 13 - 17 years; Young adult/adult 18 - 64 years; Adult/middle-age 65 - 79 years; Geriatric 80+ years.
  • Utilizes the AIDET principle to communicate with others, with a focus on patients and their families.
  • Notifies Section leaders, Chief Technologist, Laboratory Director and/or Pathologist of unresolved problems in a timely manner.
