About The Position
Obtains blood for laboratory examination by venipuncture.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school/GED Program.
- Certified as a Phlebotomist, or completion of Introduction to Phlebotomy and Clinical Phlebotomy coursework from an accredited school and ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public.
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking and the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted.
- Exposure to blood and various diseases.
Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture on clients.
- Orders and maintains adequate medical supplies for laboratory procedures in phlebotomy room and for all clinical services.
- Adheres to universal protocol precautions when disposing of all contaminated items in compliance with standard precautions and protocol while performing phlebotomy and/or laboratory procedures.
- Prepares, packages and transports lab specimens to appropriate destinations for processing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
