About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Crown Point, located in Crown Point, Indiana as a Phlebotomist at our Chesterton location. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana, the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from outpatients in DCAM and various other locations under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification, generation of specimen collection labels, and instruction for random urine collection.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Training in Phlebotomy from an accredited program; one-two years of practical experience with references.
• Ability to stand, stoop, push, lift and walk distances up to 6 city blocks in length, and ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures.
• Properly packages specimens for delivery through pneumatic tube system.
• Stocks blood drawing area and keeps clean, safe, and sterile.
• Administers glucose tolerance tests and schedules subsequent draws according to dosage times.
• Provides accurate collection instructions for random urine specimens and process according to policies.
