Phlebotomist - 1.0 FTE
About The Position
Osceola Medical Center (OMC) is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their team. This role functions as a liaison between the laboratory and patients, performing specimen collection, processing, data entry, and limited laboratory testing under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. The phlebotomist is responsible for blood collections using venipuncture and capillary techniques, as well as non-blood collections from patients of all age groups. Key responsibilities include verifying patient identification, properly labeling specimens to ensure patient safety, working effectively in a team environment, and providing excellent customer service.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED
- Knowledge in laboratory tests and specimen requirements
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and how to operate
- Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines
- Skill in verbal and written communication
- Skill in computer functions
- Ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptions
- Ability to follow written and verbal guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures/testing
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop and walking, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
- Repetitive motion including but not limited to computer keyboarding
Nice To Haves
- Prior healthcare experience or phlebotomy training
- Certificate in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant
Responsibilities
- Responsible for proper specimen collection and handling, blood and non-blood specimens
- Responsible for following processing specimens and ordering laboratory testing
- Responsible for testing specimens using waived and non-waived methods
- Provide results in LIS and over the phone
- Responsible for acquiring and maintaining CPR certification
- DOT certification may be required
- Other duties may be assigned
