This position performs phlebotomy in accordance with established National Patient Safety Goals and Baptist Health published protocols. It involves receiving specimens into the Laboratory Information System LIS accurately and timely, labeling, transporting, centrifuging, and aliquoting specimens. The role also includes distributing specimens to testing sections based on collection priority (e.g., STAT over Routine), and faxing and distributing results as appropriate. The Phlebotomist is responsible for maintaining knowledge and deploying policies and procedures within the department and throughout the hospital to address patient questions and concerns.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Computer skills
  • Specimen processing
  • Excellent interpersonal communication both verbal and written
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a high volume fast paced work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy or Registered Medical Assistant certificate
  • Experience in a hospital setting including pediatric, geriatric, oncology, and neonate patients

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy in accordance with established National Patient Safety Goals and Baptist Health published protocols
