About The Position

The Laboratory Phlebotomist is a key member of the health team. Responsible for blood drawing, perform all in-house laboratory tests, maintaining the laboratory environment as per NYS standards, and center operational activities such as technical assistance regarding agency clinical laboratory services and procedures, and customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • Minimum two years related experience
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills
  • Upholds confidentiality and professionalism in all communications in accordance with healthcare regulations
  • Reasoning & Problem-Solving Abilities
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • English and any other second language as reflects the community ideal but not mandatory.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide 10’s and 100’s.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to stand walks, sit, talk, and hear for variable lengths of times during the workday.
  • Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to view computer monitor screen for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certification from the National Association Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

  • Blood drawing for adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients including finger stick.
  • Prepare specimens for transport to outside laboratories.
  • Perform in house tests and completed the order in the EMR.
  • Verifies identity of the patient before any lab procedure.
  • Performs quality control and record results for all in-house tests.
  • Logs daily temperature of refrigerators and freezer.
  • Clean and disinfect lab counter and phlebotomy chair in a daily basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all MHHC patients.
  • Order all laboratory supplies.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory expired supplies.
  • In conjunction with the laboratory Director assist in the phlebotomy training to the intern student
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
