Performs laboratory specimen collection from patients for diagnostic purposes. This role involves determining and executing the best method for obtaining biological specimens from patients of all ages (venipuncture, capillary, heel-stick) to ensure quality specimens for testing. The phlebotomist will order appropriate tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), resolve unclear test orders, and interact with patients professionally and compassionately. Responsibilities also include preparing samples for transport, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, managing laboratory supplies, performing equipment maintenance, ensuring accurate patient registration, and participating in the laboratory quality plan. Additionally, the role involves training new staff and students.
