About The Position

The Phlebotomist plays a critical role in the healthcare system by expertly collecting blood and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, transfusions, research, or blood donations. This position is for the night shift, and requires precision and care to ensure patient comfort and safety while maintaining strict adherence to protocols and regulatory standards. The Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, accurately labeling and documenting samples, and ensuring proper handling and transportation. This role demands strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients of diverse backgrounds and alleviate any concerns related to blood collection procedures. Ultimately, the Phlebotomist contributes to accurate diagnostic outcomes and overall patient care by providing high-quality specimen collection services in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT, PBT) from a recognized certifying body.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and blood collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of specimen handling, labeling, and processing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages following established protocols.
  • Prepare and label specimens accurately to ensure proper identification and prevent contamination or mix-ups.
  • Maintain patient records and document all specimen collection activities in compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
  • Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for use.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after blood collection, providing appropriate care and reporting any incidents.
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel to ensure timely and accurate processing of specimens.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety procedures to protect patients, self, and coworkers.
  • Assist with plasma processing techniques and vital signs monitoring as needed to support clinical operations.
