About The Position

Franciscan Health is seeking a Phlebotomist for their Michigan City location. This role is responsible for the collection of blood specimens, performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. Duties include patient registration, data entry, specimen accessioning, answering phones, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing involves preparing specimens for testing and shipment. The role may also involve performing waived and specified non-waived Point-of-Care (POC) tests, acting as a driver, and participating in on-call rotations depending on the facility's needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
• May be required to travel/drive to other locations

Nice To Haves

• Background in a medical laboratory
• Knowledge of medical terminology

Responsibilities

• Collection of blood specimens
• Performing laboratory office duties including registering patients, data entry, specimen accessioning, answering telephone calls, and processing paperwork
• Processing laboratory specimens, including preparation for testing and shipment to central or reference laboratories
• Handling blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures
• Performing limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director
• Acting as a driver and participating in on-call rotation, as required by the facility
